Dept. of Parasitology holds Mgt. Review Meeting

The Department of Parasitology, NMIMR is ISO 9001:2015 Certified and ISO 15189:2012 recognized on the SLIPTA programme. As part of its yearly quality management activities, held its annual management review meeting at the Capital View Hotel in Koforidua from the 6th - 8th of May 2019. The 3-day meeting offered the management of the Department the opportunity to review its research and quality objectives for 2018 and set new objectives for 2019. The management of the Department is made up of the research leaders (Fellows) in the Department led by the Head of Department, Dr. Samuel K. Dadzie and the Department Quality Management Team led by the Quality Manager, Dr. Charles Quaye. The well-attended meeting was graced by the presence of the Director of the Institute, Prof Abraham Kwabena Anang who is a former Head of the Department of Parasitology. .

The review of the quality objectives showed a marked improvement of the publication output of the Department with 31 publications from members of the Department for 2018. The target set for the year was 22. Another area of improvement was the monitoring of stocks in the department and in-house training activities of staff. The review on the other hand exposed challenges that need to be addressed such as inter-laboratory comparisons, funding for Department QMS activities and the management of staff of the Department. A three year (2019-2023) Research and Development plan for the Department was reviewed and adopted as a blueprint for research, quality management and training activities in the Department.

QUALITY POLICY (2019)

The Department of Parasitology is committed to high quality, professional and efficient service in research, diagnosis and control of parasitic diseases of public health importance. We are also committed to creating an enabling environment for the conduct of our activities, to ensure satisfaction of all the requirements of our stakeholders and to comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements pertaining to our scope of work.

This, we will achieve by:

             Submitting at least eight grant applications annually with an expected 60% success rate

             Increasing publications in peer reviewed journals by 10% annually.

             Conducting at least five external trainings annually

             Assessing customer satisfaction and improve customer relations to ensure 90% satisfaction rate.

             Performing 100% in proficiency testing programs or other alternative programs, such as inter-laboratory comparison, for all applicable methods

             Reduce non-compliance to the established quality system by 10% annually, measured through scheduled internal and external audits and routine monitoring and evaluation.
