The NIC Team at the OPTIONS XI and 12th International RSV Symposium

Three members of the National Influenza Centre Team participated in the OPTIONS XI and the 12th International RSV Symposium 2022.

Options is a global scientific meeting with a focus on latest research developments for the control of influenza. Options XI, the 11th in the series was held this year at the ICC Belfast from the 26th to the 29th of September, 2022. The NIC submitted 3 abstracts to the conference. All three abstracts were accepted for both oral and poster presentations. The presentations were focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on influenza surveillance in Ghana. The team also won travel grants, sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the conference which included air travel tickets, conference registration and accommodation.

Prior to the Options meeting, the NIC and its GHS Epidemiology colleagues attended the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS) meeting, organized by the WHO, which was held at the Queens University in Belfast from 24th to 25th September, 2022. In addition, one of the team members had sponsorship for the 12th International Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Symposium at ICC Belfast from 29th September to 2nd October, 2022. The 12th symposium aimed at promoting and supporting excellence in research, scholarship, clinical practice and development of interventions to prevent disease caused by RSV.

The Institute continues to share in the major strides of the NIC team.
